The Start of the Journey

The trip to London went as well as expected. Despite having about 200 pieces of luggage and several dozen carry-ons, we still managed to navigate O'Hare. The flight was, well, uncomfortable. We had five seats across - not a bad set up - but none of the kids could get all that settled. And if the kids were unsettled.... Anyhoo, we got there just fine. With no one sleeping much at all and then navigating Heathrow (did I mention that we stopped short of the gate and had to walk down the jetway to a bus to an elevator that didn't work to several flights of steps...whatever we got through it), we set off for our week of transition. As they say, to get over jet lag it takes kids one day for every hour time difference between the two cities. Chicago-London is a six hour difference, so what they say is about correct.

Prelude to Some Posts

It's been 19 days since I've posted anything to the blog - my bad, but suffice it to say things have been pretty overwhelming. I've had many ideas on things this blog's vast audience I'm sure would appreciate. Today's one full day in the office for me (work!?) and then Tracy and I head off to Paris for a long weekend. After Labor Day, it's back to the grind....

Promises that soon enough I will catch up with lots of stories from the past couple weeks.

Precious Cargo

And here's the truly precious cargo that will come along for the ride. Such sweethearts. They've all taken relatively long flights (3.5 hrs to Phoenix from Chicago), but an 8 hour overnight flight is a different story. We think they're going to do just fine. Hopefully our attempts to upgrade Zach to first class by himself will work. That's a win/win situation, we think.

Green Sea Container

June 26, 2007 could technically be designated as the start of the "portnoyUKadventure" as that was the day we became the proud parents of a 20 foot sea container. By the end of the day we (and by we I don't mean me) managed to fill roughly 17 feet of this thing (floor to ceiling), which went by truck to train to cargo ship in New York Harbor across the Atlantic Ocean to Thamesport where it was inspected by British customs officials and then picked up and put in storage by our freight forwarders. Our stuff now awaits us in storage and should arrive at 27 Hamilton Terrace at 9:00am on Tuesday August 14. We'll see.

To be honest, all this isn't particularly interesting and this post is actually geared toward learning how to post a picture with text. For those who intend to become regular readers of portnoyukadventure.com, this will not be the last post you endure that has an ulterior motive.

Welcome and Farewell

Here we go. Almost. It's late on Wednesday night, tomorrow's my last day at work (in Chicago), and we all leave on Sunday. There's not a lot left to do at this point. A few more random and (hopefully) minor errands to run. And then off we go....

I hope to figure out blogging a bit better before we leave and have Tracy make an entry as well. We'll chime in before wheels up at 8:15pm out of O'Hare.
